Nuvali Dirt Weekend: The Ultimate Mountain Bike Championships

Sta. Rosa, Laguna- From November 15-17 all the cyclists from all over the country gathered for the biggest and first-ever Mountain Bike National Championship.  The Nuvali Dirt Weekend 2013 hosted the first UCI National Mountain Bike Championships divided into three thrilling, action-packed events: the Cross Country Olympics; Downhill-Individual; and Four Cross Race.

This year's theme "Pilipinong Siklista" showcases the quality and future of the professional cyclists in the country. The premier venue believes in the Filipino cyclist's talent, which is further attest to by UCI and national federation Integrated Cycling Confederation of the Philippines or Philcycling.

The winners of the National championships get the all-important points from no less than the Switzerland-based world governing body Union Cyclist International (UCI) that allows the riders to ride in international races that requires points, and also help in the ranking of the national
riders that becomes an advantage in their positions at the start and during important races like the SEAGAMES, Asian Games, Asian Championships and other registered UCI races.

The Nuvali Dirt Weekend 2013 is not like the other previous editions as it featured more events and races for professional cyclists and bike enthusiasts as well as beginner cyclists can take part in. There were three registered events from the UCI namely XCO, DHI and 4X. Other mountain bike events were non-UCI like NUVALI 30kms XC RACE and 24 hour Race and the Philippine Duathlon Series Championships, Kid's Championship Race, Fixie events (Fixie Criterium  Championships and Fixie Alley Cat), and Folding Bike Bi-Modal Ride.

Aside from the Cycling events, NUVALI joins the celebration of the Climate Change Week through a cycling activity with the Climate Change Commission. There were tree-planting activity and performances were held by different DAKILA artists like Nityalila, Bayang Barrios and Noel Cabangon.

With the recent damages caused by typhoon in Visayas, NUVALI and the DIRT WEEKEND 2013 organizers, supporters, and participants will be donating a percentage of the registration fees to help with the rehabilitation of the homes in coastal areas of the Carles and Estancia, Iloilo. There will be funds for the fishing gear for  the local fishermen too.

NUVALI has always been a perfect choice of venue where sports activities that range from marathons, fun runs, wake boarding, and this annual cycling event thrive. This was made possible by the eco-community's accessibility, safety, scenic bike trails and challenging terrain, serve to prove to all and sundry that Filipino athletes, specially cyclists, are at par with the best of the world.
