Puerto Galera Vacation Galore
I am a certified "lakwatsera" so when I was invited by my friends to go to Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro last October of 2010 it didn't took them too long to convince me to say yes. I've heard of so many beautiful stories of the pocket beaches, of the snorkeling and diving spots, its diverse coral reef and not to forget the active nightlife with its numerous bars and restaurants. I am so eager to see them all. So, I said to myself I have never been there, so, might as well grab the opportunity.
On the day of our departure there was a news that there would be a super typhoon coming, but, since everything were all set we still pushed through with our plans. We left Manila at 7 in the morning. We boarded a bus going to Batangas Port. And from there, we took a one-hour-ferry ride to White Beach, Puerto Galera. White Beach, by the way, was known to local travelers for who doesn't have much time and money. Almost everything here is affordable. Cool!
From afar, the view was awesome. The long powder like sand beach was really spectacular. Beach umbrellas line up and chaise lounge scattered on the bay for the tourist to sit back and enjoy its magnificent view and do some sun tanning. The hotels are just steps away from the beach. You could see restaurants everywhere and shopping stalls for some souvenirs are just within your reach. And at the back of the beach you could see the also the lush mountain just waiting for travelers to explore them. So, in general, I could say you will never get bored here. It's more fun in White Beach, Puerto Galera!
We stayed at VM Beach Resort for two days. It became our home away from home simply because the rooms were all nice and clean and spacious and the rates are really affordable. Plus the location is really near the beach. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
At sundown, some of my friends decided to play volleyball. I passed for I was too exhausted from swimming the whole afternoon. I enjoyed the water so much because it wasn't too salty and the temperature was right. And I love the fact that it was crystal clear. I could see the bottom. It erased my fear of stepping on anything alien under my feet. And at last, the sun was almost kissing the sea. It really took my breath away for I've never seen a beautiful sunset as this. It was so captivating. T'was a perfect setting for lovers to just cuddle, listen to the sounds of the waves and exchange sweet nothings.
So, we thought we've seen all the fun in the daylight until night came and all the bars and restaurants became alive. We ate in a restaurant where they serve grilled food and they have firedance shows too. And I was really amazed by their performances. Excellent! I couldn't dance that way. It must've took them a lot of talent and courage to do that. Imagine your dealing with fire and yet you still have to be graceful. Two thumbs up!
After dinner, we went straight to this group of talented young tattoo artists just right outside VM Beach Resort who are ready to give their service to their patrons. My friends were anticipating for that moment to get their tattoos done. So, when we come back to Manila they would have something to show off to their office mates and family. I just couldn't really remember how much it cost for one tattoo but it won't hurt your budget, I swear.
The next day, the group decided to go on a banana boat ride after breakfast. That will be our last activity before we go back to Manila. I didn't go with them for I don't know how to swim. I always have this fear of drowning. Just being safe, I guess. So, I became their official photographer instead. Oh! How I envy them as they ride that yellow thing. I could hear them scream while they motorboat pull the giant banana. I promised myself that when I come back to White Beach I will definitely be on that one.
Around 2 o'clock we packed up and head to the nearest restaurant. Ate our last lunch there and waited for the ferry to come. As I look around the place, I felt like I never wanted to leave it but I have to. I have kids waiting for me at home. Puerto Galera is simply magical. Here in this island anything can happen according to your wish. It made my mine come true and that is to be in paradise for a while at least. I simply won't forget this trip. I will come back for more. That's for sure!
