KFC Philippines Supports World Food Programme Through ‘Buckets of Love’

MANILA, November 21,2013 –KFC Philippines further strengthens its longtime partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) through ‘Buckets of Love,’ a comprehensive campaign that seeks to raise awareness and generate funds for conflict and disaster-affected areas in the country. KFC Philippines has been WFP’s partner since 2007, in line with the Yum! Brands’ World Hunger Relief campaign – the world’s largest hunger relief effort in the private sector that spans over 120 countries.

This year, KFC has pledged to donate to WFP Php5.00 from every 8-piece bucket meal, and Php 1.00 from every 1-piece Crispy Butter Chicken sold from November 2013 to January 2014. . Proceeds will be used to support WFP’s efforts in rebuilding communities affected by Typhoon Yolanda, while still assisting WFP’s existing school feeding programs in conflict-affected areas in Central Mindanao. Customers may also share their blessings through coin canisters found in KFC counters.

Last year, KFC Philippines’ donation to WFP provided over 750,000 school meals to more than 100,000 school children in the provinces of Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Lanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur. Among those who have benefited from the WFP school feeding programme is Norhana Calandada of Ilian Elementary School in Lanao del Sur.
Prior to the school feeding programme, Norhana would go to school on an empty stomach, and with no packed lunch. She would spend lunchtime playing alone in the schoolyard while waiting for afternoon classes to begin, choosing not to go back home because she would much rather give her share of food to her siblings. Since the WFP’s school feeding programme began -- and which KFC Philippines has been supporting since 2007 – Norhana now receives a meal in school to help her concentrate and perform better in class.

Norhana’s story shows that a small gesture can make a difference. The simple act of purchasing a meal allows customers to not only enjoy KFC’s signature dishes, but also contribute to changing the lives of children and communities benefiting from the ‘Buckets of Love’ campaign.

Beyond the so good experiences that we provide our loyal fans through innovative products and one-of-a-kind opportunities, we also make it a point to pay it forward by extending assistance to communities that need our support,” said Liza Leah Calma – Junio, General Manager for KFC Philippines. “KFC is a company that values sharing and likewise Filipinos are people who love giving. ‘Buckets of Love’ gives them the channel to share what they have with those who need it most.”
KFC’s ‘Buckets of Love’ efforts will run from November 2013 to January 2014. Those who will not be purchasing meals can still help out through the campaign’s canister initiative, encouraging people to share their spare change to help give hope to conflict- and disaster-affected communities in the Philippines.
